"Tuffy"
(see cartoons below intro)

Syd created the daily comic strip 'Tuffy' in 1939. It was published by Hearst Publications and appeared in more than 800 newspapers worldwide for over a decade (and was declared essential for national morale during WWII). Tuffy was about a little girl who did funny things and was one of the first in a long line of young, spirited female characters, which included Little Lulu, Nancy, Little Audrey, and Little Dot. Her well-meaning antics usually revolved around her family and her friend Jerry, all of whom cherished her despite the fact she was a constant source of aggravation.
