Sketchbook of American Humorists
Sketchbook of American Humorists was published in New York by Publishers Service Co. in 1938. Syd shared these pages with Peter Arno, Roland Coe, John Held, Jr., Martin Nadle, Martin Neill, Jesse Jacobs, John Perotti.

Hoff invented a novel device to send shafts of humor into funny bones from coast to coast. This device is the familiar bald-headed tenement philosopher in undershirt and walrus mustache who shuffles through the pages of your favorite periodicals.

“Gotta coupla nickles?”

“Hush, baby … papa just came in … he’s going to try to tell us both a bedtime story.”

“I’m sending the car to the garage, m’am, to have the body straightened – would you like to go along?”

“How’m I gonna explain this to my wife?”
